The International Tourism Studies Association (ITSA) 2020 is a forum for exchanging ideas and research practices in the field of tourism. ITSA is being held for the second time in Indonesia with the aim of providing an opportunity to meet and develop networks with academics and researchers from all over the world. The Faculty of Tourism at Pancasila University was appointed as the organizer of the international conference representing Indonesia and the co-host of James Cook University Singapore. The ITSA conference raised the theme of Culture, People, Technology, & City Tourism.
The 2020 ITSA Conference was opened by the Deputy Minister of Tourism & Creative Economy Angela tanoesoedibjo, the 8th ITSA Biennial Conference which was held in Jakarta which was attended by 16 countries from 5 continents, and there were 86 papers from 180 authors held at the JS Luwansa hotel Jakarta 02 December 2020. ITSA conferences are held in a hybrid format (on site and on line).
This conference presented a keynote speaker namely Professor Alastair M. Morrison, Ph.D is a research Professor at the University of Greenwich, London, England and a distinguished Professor Emeritus, Purdue University, Indiana, USA. Hera Oktadiana, Ph.D is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer from James Cook University Australia and joined the postgraduate program at the Trisakti School of Tourism Jakarta and ITSA Regional Vice President for Southeast Asia. Professor Dr. Iis Tussyadiah is Professor of Hospitality and Digital Experience from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey, UK, Leader of the Digital Visitor Economy Research Group and Digital Laboratory and Indonesian Diaspora who has worked in the US, Denmark and currently in the UK.
Professor Brian King is Professor and Dean of the School of Hotel and Tourism Management of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and expert consultant to international tourism agencies on human resource development and marketing. Also present were the Chancellor of Pancasila University Prof. Dr. Wahono Sumaryono, Apt. and Chairman of the Board of Education Foundation and Trustees of Pancasila University (YPPUP) Prof. Dr. Edie Toet Hendratno, SH, M.Sc who also gave a speech at the beginning of the event.
This event can be an example for the implementation of events in a hybrid format that complies with the CHSE protocol. It is hoped that the presence of participants from 16 countries at this conference will become a symbol of the recovery of Indonesian tourism.
