The potential of bitter melon fruit extract as an antimalarial led Dian Yudianto to achieve the 18th FFUP Doctor of Pharmacy Science.

Dian Yudianto said that one of the pillars of the transformation of the Indonesian health system is the transformation of the Indonesian resilience system, namely by increasing the resilience of the pharmaceutical sector. Dian Yudianto said that bitter melon is a plant that grows in Indonesia which has potential antimalarial compounds.

Students from the Doctoral Study Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP) Jakarta, explained that this research hopes that bitter melon fruit extract will be used as a raw material for antimalarial phytopharmaceuticals.

Currently, the raw materials for 90% medicines are still imported, the number of phytopharmacies and pre-clinical research and clinical trials on traditional medicines and phytopharmacies, especially for malaria, is still very limited. There is Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2022 concerning the acceleration of increasing the use of domestic products and products of micro businesses, small businesses and cooperatives in order to make the proud national movement made in Indonesia a success in the implementation of Government Goods/Services Procurement, RPJMN in the health sector and pillars of transformation in the health sector as well as previous research bitter melon fruit extract as an antimalarial which has been carried out in North Sumatra and West Papua is the background for this research

The results of this research led Dian Yudianto to successfully obtain a doctorate after successfully defending his dissertation entitled "Clinical trials of bitter melon fruit extract capsules (Momordica charantia Linn) compared to the standard antimalarial combination (DHP-Primaquine) in malaria sufferers Plasmodium falciparum without complications in Southwest Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara." He defended his dissertation before the board of examiners at an open session held in the meeting room of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP) in Jakarta on Friday 3 May 2024.

The board of examiners consists of the Chair of the Board of Examiners, Chancellor of Pancasia University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, IPU. ASEAN Eng, ASPEN Eng, ACPPE, Head of the Pharmaceutical Science Doctoral Study Program, Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. rer. Nat. apt. Deni Rahmat, M.Sc.; The examiner members consist of Prof. Dr. apt. Dian Ratih Laksmitawati, M. Biomed. (FFUP), Prof. Dr. apt. Shirly Kumala, M. Biomed. (FFUP), and Brigadier General TNI (Ret.) Dr. Dr. Soroy Lardo, Sp.PD, K-PTI, FINASIM (FK-UPN Veteran Jakarta)

Meanwhile, the promoter of Dian Yudianto's dissertation is Prof. Dr. apt. Syamsudin, M. Biomed. (FFUP), with co-promoter apt. Hesty Utami R, M.Clin Pharm, Ph.D, (FFUP) and Prof. Dr. Dr. Erni Juwita Nelwan, Ph.D, Sp.PD, K-PTI, FINASIM, FACP from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI). "The approach carried out through the clinical trial method of a single preparation of bitter melon extract capsules by looking at the results of measuring safety and effectiveness as an antimalarial is a novelty from this research," he said.
