The Faculty of Law, Pancasila University, in collaboration with the Leimanadan Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, successfully held a National Seminar entitled Cross Cultural Religion & Law on Friday, 12 July 2024, in the Plato Room, Faculty of Law, Pancasila University Building. This activity was attended by the Chancellor of Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, IPU, Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Sri Widyastuti, SE, MM, M.Sc. , Deputy Chancellor for General Administration and Finance Ir. Handrito Hardjono, MM., MPA., MSM., Dean of the Faculty of Law, Pancasila University Prof. Dr. Eddy Pratomo, SH, MA and Mr. Muhsin Syihab who is the Expert Staff for Inter-Agency Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.Â

This national seminar aims to be a comprehensive forum for discussing the complex relationship between legal frameworks and religious practices. The context of religion and law is a relevant issue at this time, where issues regarding religious freedom, legal rights and cultural diversity often appear in national and national news. Through this National Seminar, it is hoped that we can answer questions related to this issue. This National Seminar can also contribute to building a world where cultural and religious diversity is not only recognized but can also be integrated into legal and social structures.Â

This National Seminar activity was opened by a speech from the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Eddy Pratomo, SH, MA In his speech, Prof. Eddy said that this national seminar activity was a good momentum for the participants to understand and exchange information regarding issues regarding law and religion for the participants, especially for students and lecturers at the Faculty of Law, Pancasila University. On this occasion, the Chancellor of Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Marsudi Wahyu Kisworo, IPU. Conveying that Indonesia is an archipelagic country consisting of more than 17,000 islands and has many cultures so that it is a very appropriate example of cultural and religious diversity.Â
The resource persons in this activity are resource persons who have been around for a long time and are very competent in legal and religious issues, including Prof. Brett G. Scharffs who is Director, International for Law and Religion Studies, Brigham Young University Law School, Prof. W. Cole Durham Jr. who is President of the G20 Interfaith Forum and is Professor of Law and Founding Director, International Center for Law & Religion Studies, Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School, Prof. Kathrine Marshall who is Vice President of the G20 Interfaith Forum and Professor and Senior Fellow; Executive Director, World Faiths Development Dialogue at Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs, Georgetown University, Dr. Kunthi Tridewiyanti, SH, MA who is Head of Private Law Department, Anthropologist, Law, Feminist & Gender Enthusiast Faculty of Law, Pancasila University.
Through this National Seminar, participants are expected to develop a deeper understanding of how legal principles and religious beliefs can coexist. In addition, this seminar can encourage constructive discussions about the challenges and opportunities in harmonizing legal and religious practices.
