Fikom UP Holds International Sustainable Film Festival (ISFF) with the theme "Awakening Our Youth"

The Faculty of Communication Sciences, Pancasila University (Fikom UP) held an International Sustainable Film Festival (ISFF) with the theme "Awakening Our Youth" in the Nusantara Hall, UP Faculty of Law, Jakarta, Saturday 08 June 2024. The series of events began with a film discussion and continued with an awarding ceremony for the winners of the film competition.

A total of 39 films with the theme Sustainable Development Goals (SDG's) participated in the competition which were divided into three categories, namely student categories, general and university fiction, and general and university documentaries.

There were 3 winners from each category selected by three judges, namely producer and director Monty Tiwa, actor Ricky Wattimena, and media practitioner and lecturer at Fikom UP Joko Utomo Hadibroto. Meanwhile, director and scriptwriter Riri Riza was present as a speaker in the discussion activity. As a film practitioner who has received many national and international awards, Riri Riza shares her experiences regarding films and her views on sustainability.

UP Dean of Fikom Anna Agustina, Ph. D said that this activity aims to invite the younger generation to better understand the theme of sustainability through film works. "Through this activity, it is hoped that the community, especially the younger generation, pupils and students can understand the importance of paying attention to sustainability in their daily lives," said Anna.

Meanwhile, Chair of the event committee, Sofia Primalisanti Devi, M.Si stated that currently the theme of sustainability is of concern to the world community, and film can be an effective medium that can be used to spread sustainability values.

"The younger generation will more easily understand sustainability issues through film works, therefore it is important to translate the theme of sustainability into audio-visual form so that it can be watched as widely as possible by the public," he said.

The theme "Awakening Our Youth" was chosen to invite the younger generation to move and do something for environmental sustainability. Apart from film discussions and awarding ceremonies, this event also included entertainment in the form of music performances and stand up comedy by students and alumni of Fikom UP.
