FFUP Holds International Pharmacy Summer Course 2025: Explores Indonesian Natural Products and Culture

The Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University (FFUP) is once again holding the 2nd International Summer Course in Pharmacy (ISCP), an international academic program that will take place from July 28 to August 3, 2025. With the theme “Harnessing the Power of Natural Products – Innovation in Pharmacy for a Sustainable Future”, this activity is part of FFUP’s commitment to supporting sustainable natural resource-based pharmaceutical innovation, while strengthening the global higher education network.

ISCP 2025 is designed as a cross-border learning platform that brings together students and academics from diverse cultural and scientific backgrounds. Through an interdisciplinary approach encompassing lectures, workshops, field trips, and cultural activities, participants will gain comprehensive experience in the exploration and utilization of natural products in the development of future pharmaceutical therapies.

This year, ISCP presents a number of experts from various leading institutions, including:
• Prof. Taifo Mahmud (Oregon State University, United States)
• Prof. Dr. rer. nat. apt. Deni Rahmat, M.Si (Pancasila University, Indonesia)
• Prof. Muhammad Taher Bakhtiar (International Islamic University Malaysia)
• Ma. Concepcion Sim, MS Pharm., RPh (Trinity University of Asia, Philippines)
• Assoc. Prof. Deny Susanti (IIUM, Malaysia)
•Dr. Methee Phumtum (Mahidol University, Thailand)

Various topics that will be discussed include the biosynthesis of natural products, nanotechnology for herbal skincare, the use of ethnomedicine, artificial intelligence in natural product research, and the development of herbal-based antibacterial preparations.

In addition to academic sessions, participants will also take part in various field activities and cultural tours at leading locations, such as:
• Atsiri House (training in extracting natural product aromas and making pharmaceutical products based on essential oils)
• UPF Yankestrad Tawangmangu and Pancasila University Herbal Garden (introduction to herbal plants and workshop)
• Holistic Hospital, Purwakarta (application of herbs in complementary therapy)

To further enrich the cultural insights of international participants, the program also includes city tours to Yogyakarta, Solo, and Bandung as part of an introduction to Indonesian culture. Participants will be invited to explore the historical heritage, art, cuisine, and local wisdom of these cities as part of cross-cultural learning.

This program is open to undergraduate pharmacy students from Indonesia and abroad who are interested in pharmacognosy, ethnomedicine, and natural product development. Students from Pancasila University will receive additional academic recognition in the form of recognition credits, while all participants will receive an official certificate signed by the institution's leadership.

ISCP-UP 2025 reflects the strategic steps of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University, in embracing cross-border collaboration, integrating science and culture, and preparing pharmacy students who are not only intellectually intelligent but also sensitive to global challenges.
