UI GreenMetric Workshop for Higher Education at LLLDIKTI Region III

UI GreenMetric held a Webinar Workshop for Higher Education LLDIKTI Region III (09/07). UIGM is a world-class university ranking program based on aspects of campus greening, which includes several aspects of the campus environment including infrastructure, energy, waste management, water, transportation, and education. This ranking is a form of campus concern in creating green areas and high commitment in managing the campus environment. Pancasila University (UP) is currently ranked 29th in the National and 451st in the international rankings.

On this occasion, the Chancellor of Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Wahono Sumaryono, Apt. present to give a presentation as a speaker on the Environmental Waste Management of the Pancasila University campus, in his presentation Prof. Wahono conveyed several points regarding policies related to the green campus including the realization of the Pancasila University Campus which is environmentally friendly, conducive, for the process of Higher Education Tridarma activities, the aim of which is to develop the behavior of Academicians who care about the environment, reducing zero waste environmental waste with recycling processes , reduce waste because we can implement daily behavior not to increase waste and also reduce the number of motorized vehicles by providing bicycles or special parking that accommodates motorized vehicles so as to reduce emissions, and Creating campus conditions that are safe, comfortable and conducive for the implementation of Higher Education Tridarma activities as well as supporting the implementation of Pancasila's Noble Values, he said.

Currently we have implemented several programs, one of which is lighting parks using solar energy on campus with 8 panels each with a power of 2,000 Watt, as well as providing pedestrian and greening as well as groundwater management through a filtering system. Some of the efforts we are making for waste minimization are such as sorting paper, plastic, organic, inorganic waste etc. by providing several trash bin facilities according to their respective categories, then by utilizing used water such as ablution waste at the At-Taqwa UP Mosque to can be used for watering plants in the UP environment, hand washing water waste in toilets is channeled to impregnation, and laboratory waste processing, as well as several programs that we are currently promoting including paperless to paperless by utilizing online technology, bringing your own drinking bottles, and using other containers to replace plastic by using several alternatives such as bamboo baskets, using cassaplast, etc.

We also carried out several plantings using the vertical garden method to reduce the effects of global warming caused by the release of emissions from greenhouses using vernonia elliptica vines, one of which was at the Faculty of Engineering, then for the energy sector we also received Insinas funding from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. This is already the third year that we have developed a waste processing unit to produce two products. The first is methane for electricity generation and gasoline, so we do segregation from this waste, from plastic waste we do pyrolysis to produce diesel and gasoline while the organic waste we put in the biodigester produces methane gas, this tool can convert 1 kg of plastic into 0.9 liters of fuel consisting of 0.6 liters of diesel and 0.3 liters of gasoline and has been tested at LEMIGAS, closed Prof. Wahono in his presentation.
