Currently, there is widespread discussion regarding the irregularities in the status of professors for a number of officials. Several big names in government emerged and questioned the validity of his professorship. Regarding this matter Prof.Dr. Eddy Pratomo, SH., MA, who is also a Professor in the field of International Law, gave his response when interviewed after holding an international seminar "Cross Cultural Religion & Law” which was held at the Faculty of Law (FH) UP Jakarta in collaboration with the Leimana Institute and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemlu RI) (12/7).
“Professor is the highest functional position for lecturers who are still teaching in higher education units. Professor is an Academic Position and not an Academic Title. Therefore, the way to obtain it is through achieving academic achievement as proven by scientific work related to the field of competence of the lecturer who applies. "Achieving the academic position of Professor is not easy, there are many requirements and stages that a lecturer needs to go through, which causes the need for caution from the campus and the Ministry of Education and Culture in studying the Professor application files." Prof. Eddy explained
Prof. Eddy, who is also the Dean of FH UP, stated "that in every application for professors we have carried out the established procedures, namely starting with review "The Professors and the Faculty Academic Senate are then assessed by the Professors and the University Academic Senate, and then submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture."
"A lecturer's efforts to achieve professorship often take years, there are many obstacles that need to be overcome, one of which is the acceptance of scientific articles in international journals. This long process was actually also carried out by Prof. Dr. Reda Manthovani, SH., LLM. "One of the FH UP professors whose name has been discussed in the media recently." According to Prof. Eddy served as Indonesian Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany (2009-2013).
According to Prof. Eddy "Since 2007 Prof. Reda carries out the Tri Dharma of higher education in UP. For example, in 2012 he led research on the anti-money laundering regime which was then recorded, given a seminar and used as a reference in RPS courses for FH UP students. In the following years he continued to be productive in producing scientific works so that he was listed in the SINTA rankings and Google Scholar. "There you can see that there are 45 published studies including books, national journals and international journals and have been cited (referenced by other researchers)."
It further said “that considering tracks records him in the world of education at FHUP, as well as the need for professors in order to strengthen human resources at our institution, FHUP then proposed and encouraged our lecturer, Prof. Desperate to become a Professor. During the process review, the special requirements for jumping to functional positions at that time were deemed to have been met. "We learned that there was research published in 5 international journals indexed by Scopus, as the main author, and apart from that, there were still 7 international journals indexed by Scopus published with him as the second author."
"Regarding the international scientific journal Scopus created by Prof. Reda, at the time it was submitted, none of it was included in the category of prohibited journals or discontinued. Therefore, in our view, it is related to changes in status discontinued Journal publishing is a cycle in research journals and is often outside the knowledge of lecturers, so it feels less balanced in terms of status discontinued journal publishing is charged to each lecturer." Prof. explained. Eddie.
"As an educational institution, of course we are very concerned about developments in this issue and will continue to be careful in maintaining the quality of our lecturers. Precisely because quality is the main consideration, we think Prof. Reda is the right cadre for the advancement of education at FH UP, because apart from being a practitioner in the field of law, he is also an alumni of FH UP and has completed his Master's degree at Faculté de Droit de l'UniversitédAix, Marseille III France and his doctoral program at the University of Indonesia. Of course, as a practitioner and academic, he has a lot to teach students." Said Prof. Eddy closing the interview.
