Building a House for Diversity in a Multiculturalism Campus.

The campus can be said to be a laboratory of life, in which there is multicultural interaction from all the academic community. We all understand that recently the notion of radicalism has slowly infiltrated and targeted young intellectuals. This phenomenon certainly needs to be anticipated immediately, so as not to damage the younger generation. This is one of the foundations for Pancasila University to build 6 houses of worship from recognized religions in Indonesia. The importance of the existence of the 6 houses of worship was marked by the inauguration on Wednesday 5 January 2022 by Prof. Dr. KH Ma'ruf Amin, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, and witnessed by Mr H. Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Minister of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr H. Anies Rasyid Baswedan, SE, MPP, Ph.D, Governor of DKI Jakarta. The inauguration activity was also attended by Ambassadors from friendly countries, as well as businessmen.

The initiator of the establishment of the 6 houses of worship was the Chairperson of the Pancasila University Educational Foundation and Trustees (YPP UP), namely Dr. (HC.) Ir. Siswono Yudo Husodo. The background of his thinking is that as a university that bears the big name of Pancasila, it is appropriate for the academic community to be committed to protecting Pancasila, protecting the nation, including its diversity in terms of customs, culture, language and religion. Harmonization of interaction and communication between religious communities will eliminate conflicts between student groups that often arise in one university.

Chancellor of Pancasila University, Prof. Dr. Edie Toet Hendratno, SH, M.Sc., FCBArb in his report said that "This nation has placed Pancasila as Weltanschauung (worldview) or philosofische grondslag (foundational philosophy of the state). This nation also by consensus has placed Pancasila as the basis of the state, which is the foundation of the "existence" of the Indonesian state." “These 6 houses of worship will become symbols of “House of Diversity”, a place where all academics and the surrounding community can build their faith relations, whether they are Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, Hindu, Buddhist or Confucian. A place to learn to strengthen human relations, tolerate and maintain unity, learn to discuss decisions, and learn to be fair to others."

The construction of the six Houses of Worship was carried out in mutual cooperation both by the Pancasila University Educational Foundation and Trustees, Pancasila University and Pancasila University and Foundation relations. The houses of worship consist of the Pancasila University AT-TAQWA Mosque, Pancasila University Christian Service Grha Protestant Church, Pancasila University Santro Petrus Catholic Church, Pancasila University Dhamma Sasana Vihara, Pancasila University Widya Santika Temple and Pancasila University Great Virtue Temple.
