Increasing the Capacity of the Task Force for Preventing and Handling Sexual Violence in Higher Education: Leading Pancasila University

JAKARTA, 18 December 2023 – In an effort to tackle and prevent sexual violence in tertiary institutions, the Region III Higher Education Service Institute (LLDIKTI) officially launched a capacity building program for the Task Force for Preventing and Handling Sexual Violence (PPKS Task Force). The event for the formation of the PPKS Task Force was held on Monday, December 18 2023, from 08.00 to 15.00, in the Auditorium of Building F8, Faculty of Medicine, Gunadarma University.

Prof. Dr. Toni Toharudin, S.Si., M.Sc., as Head of LLDIKTI Region III, said, "The formation of the PPKS Task Force is a strategic step in preventing and dealing with sexual violence in higher education, especially in the LLDIKTI Region III environment. "This is a concrete manifestation of the commitment of education actors to provide effective and safe services for students and the academic community in the campus environment."

In line with government regulations, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) is committed to encouraging all universities to pay focused attention to the issue of sexual violence. The related regulation, Permendikbudristek Number 30 of 2021 concerning Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education, is an important milestone in efforts to ensure that campuses are safe and comfortable places for the academic community.

As a follow-up to the issuance of this regulation, LLDIKTI Region III continues to urge universities to accelerate the formation of the PPKS Task Force. As a result, from August 2023 to December 2023, the number of universities forming the PPKS Task Force increased rapidly. From initially only 13 universities, now it has reached 106, and it is predicted that this will continue to increase.

Pancasila University received special appreciation from LDIKTI Region III because it has become one of the responsive universities by forming the PPKS Task Force. This decision reflects Pancasila University's commitment to supporting the quality of service for the academic community, to create a safe and comfortable campus environment. With the formation of the PPKS Task Force at Pancasila University, it is hoped that it will be able to create an educational environment that is free from sexual violence, and ensure that the campus is an inclusive place that supports the optimal development of students.
