Jakarta, January 11, 2025 – Pancasila University has again achieved a brilliant achievement in the academic world. In the open session of the Doctoral Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, dr. Manuel Hutapea, Sp.OG, Subsp.Onk., officially received a Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences and became the 22nd doctoral graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pancasila University. This promotion is a special moment because dr. Manuel, who is known as an experienced practitioner and academic, has made major contributions in the field of gynecological oncology, especially tumors and uterine cancer.
Dr. Manuel's dissertation entitled "Characteristics of Lymphocyte Subpopulations, Biomarkers (Micronuclei, SNP P53) in Ovarian Cancer Patients, and the Effect of Ethyl Acetate Fraction of Sea Cucumber (Stichopus vastus) on CD4+, CD8+ Concentrations, and Gamma-H2AX Expression, Caspase-3 Apoptosis in T Lymphocyte Cells as Representatives of Immune Response" highlights the great potential of Indonesian sea cucumber fractions as immunoadjuvants in ovarian cancer therapy. This research provides important innovations for the development of immune response-based cancer therapy, utilizing the wealth of Indonesia's natural resources, especially maritime wealth.
Supervised by promoter Prof. Dr. apt. Syamsudin, M.Biomed., and co-promoter Drs. Iin Kurnia, M.Biomed., Ph.D., and Dr. Miswar Fattah, M.Si., Dr. Manuel graduated with a perfect GPA of 4.00 and no revisions to his dissertation.Â
In his statement, Dr. dr. Manuel Hutapea, Sp.OG, Subsp.Onk., who also serves as the Head of the Cancer Handling Team at Dr. Soedarso Hospital, Pontianak, and the Head of the Indonesian Oncology Association (POI) West Kalimantan Branch, expressed optimism that this research can be an innovative solution to increase the body's immune response in fighting cancer. "With a higher immune response, it is hoped that the survival rate of ovarian cancer patients can increase significantly,". With this title, he strengthens his commitment to continue contributing to the world of health, especially in the management of gynecological cancer in Indonesia.
