Jakarta, December 2, 2024 – Pancasila University (UP) in collaboration with the Indonesian Cancer Institute (LKI) successfully held a free health education activity with the theme "Prevent Cancer as Early as Possible". This activity was carried out as a form of real effort to increase awareness and knowledge about the dangers of cancer and preventive steps that can be taken. This program is specifically aimed at Pancasila University employees as part of the institution's commitment to supporting health in the UP environment.
The event was attended by a number of leaders at the university and faculty levels including the Dean of the UP Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. apt. Syamsudin, M.Biomed. Vice Dean of Pharmacy UP Dr. apt. Greesty Finotory S, M.Farm., Vice Dean of the UP Faculty of Psychology, Dr. Ayu Dwi Nindyati, M.Si., Psychologist. and the Head of the University Communication Bureau, Dr. Fitria Angeliqa, M.Si. and the participants who were mostly educational staff. As the main speaker, Cici Puspita Sari, A.Md. Keb. from the Indonesian Cancer Institute delivered educational material that was full of benefits related to cancer prevention.
The event began with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy UP, Prof. Dr. apt. Syamsudin, M.Biomed. In his remarks, Prof. Syam, said that currently the Faculty of Pharmacy has succeeded in developing an adjuvant for Breast Cancer companions from Temulawak Phylogenetically in the Framework of Traditional Medicine Raw Material Independence in Indonesia. Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorhiza Roxb) is known to have many benefits, one of which is the potential as an anti-breast cancer. The active components that have the potential as anticancer in temulawak rhizomes are curcuminoids and xanthorrhizol. This is an innovation of the Kemenristekdikti Matching Fund program. This collaboration is certainly very good in the context of developing research and collaboration between universities and institutions.
The next activity was the presentation of material by the resource person, Cici Puspita Sari, A.Md. Keb., explaining the fact that cancer is the second largest cause of death in the world, often detected at an advanced stage due to minimal symptoms in the early stages. She explained the importance of early detection for prostate, cervical, and breast cancer, and delivered material covering risk factors such as genetics, unhealthy lifestyles, and consumption of foods containing carcinogens, early symptoms such as abnormal lumps, persistent pain, or other physical changes, and prevention methods through a healthy lifestyle by consuming nutritious foods, exercising regularly, and avoiding exposure to hazardous substances.
Cici closed by emphasizing the importance of consistent health education and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle as a strategic step to reduce the incidence of cancer in Indonesia.
The event, which took place in the Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Faculty of Pharmacy, was greeted with high enthusiasm from the participants. Pancasila University through this activity demonstrated its active role in creating a healthy, empowered, and productive work environment, while supporting public health more broadly.
